Tips on Cancer Prevention

* Don't Smoke
* Avoid too many calories and obesity

* Avoid too many fatty foods (especially saturated fat). Fat content in the diet should not exceed 30%.
* Avoid salty and strongly spiced food
* Avoid smoked, grilled and over-fried foods
* Get plenty of fibre; eat whole grains, fruit and vegetables
* Get plenty of fruit & vegetables - at least 5 portions per day
* Take a daily supplement of selenium
* Eat sufficient beta carotene - either 2 large carrots per day or take a beta carotene supplement
* Eat 30mg of Coenzyme Q10 every day
* Take 200-300 mg of vitamin C per day
* Ensure that your get enough vitamin E (200 mg per day)
* Avoid bright sunlight and especially avoid getting sun burned


Most of this advice is not especially new. I do not recommend any megadoses of vitamins and minerals but rather a modest supplementation in order to ensure safe and adequate daily intake of anti-cancer antioxidants.

Anyone who comes from a family where cancer cases have been common, and who may therefore have a certain hereditary tendency to contract the disease, ought to pay special attention to the above guidelines.

Cancer prevention ought to begin in childhood. Children should learn healthy eating habits at an early age. However, it's never too late to make a start on cancer prevention, because cancer usually has a very long development period.
